August 6, 2008 Meeting notes...
Convened at Uncle Charlie’s at 7:00 PM.
“My
Last Beer” Richard B. is working on a Maudite inspired
Belgian ale with a British ale/Australian Dark Lager background. Bill
has an IPA in the fermenter that filled the room with hop aroma during
blow-off. Gus is brewing a Milk Stout.
Beer First! Beer of the Month: Bill brought in 8 Seconds
second and third place beers, based on scores. Vienna Lager,
So.Eng.Brown Ale, Pumpkin Spiced Ale, Irish Red Ale, Std.American
Lager, California Common, Baltic Porter, American Pale Ale, Hefeweizen
w/ Peach wood smoked 2-Row, Roggenbier, another California Common, and
an English Pale Ale. We also sampled Bill's Chiswick Bitter from Big
Brew Day, a third place winner. September is Chris with
Beers from New England, October is Steve, beer TBD, November is Paul's
turn, beer still TBD.
Club Only Competitions
October 11th is Imperial versions of any beer. IPA's in November.
Remember
club entry of your beer wins you 50 bucks!
Volunteer
for BOTM via the
listserver, for any available meeting or style. First one to speak up
gets first choice.
Treasurers Report: Was at
$1081.63, with receipts and expenditure so far for 8 Seconds, is now
$1586.98. There are a few more expenses to pay for the competition,
like the ribbons, postage for mailing score sheets, gas money for Brian
picking up all the entries (voted for 10-1 a the meeting), and other
incidentals. After that, we will probably be right back where we
started, around $1050.00.
New Business:
Flyers
have been
put up at several places by members. Brent is going to check on listing
in the clubs column in the paper again.
We voted to sponsor a club only competition , the first available date
looks like 2011.
Reschedule a Rockies game for later this summer.
Upcoming Events:
Steinley Cup Festival for
Wyoming Breweries is in Saratoga on August 16th. Brent has places
nearby to camp.
Orris is having a Harvest Ale brew-in whenever the hops are ripe,
August 23rd is now the date.
There will be an Oktoberfest themed informal competiton at F.E.Warren
NCO club on September 26th. Plan a beer or two for this one, last year
was a good time even with only 5 brewers.
Holiday Hop/Stop is Saturday December 6th, tentatively at Paul's house,
but the possibility of more than one house and a bus are being
discussed.
Plan on club participation in
Mead Day in Boulder next February. Several
members expressed interest in this event.
Eight Seconds of Froth for 2009 will be back to a spring date and in
Cheyenne.
Eight
Seconds of Froth and Mugshot Challenge: This year's
Eight Seconds was a great success, thanks to the hard work of our
volunteers and Altitude Chophouse and Brewery. We judged 187 beers,
meads and ciders in 21 categories. Entries were received from all
around the country, from as far away as Pennsylvania and Florida. This
year's winners list is available at http://www.bbriggs.vcn.com/08Winners.html
Also, 2008 was the
fourth year of our Ace of Clubs
competition within a
competition, this year with our first second-time winner, KROC .
Homebrew clubs are awarded points for total number of
entries and judges, and for all top three finishes by their members in
each category and BOS. Winning
club receives a travelling trophy plus other goodies. The winning club
keeps the trophy for the year and then returns it at next year's
Dredhop to be made ready for the upcoming Eight Seconds of
Froth and Ace of Clubs competitions.
